the narrow band of temperatures we live in now (thank you climate-controlled everything) is a wild departure from the swings our ancestors evolved to handle and, quite honestly, isn’t natural for our biology. the good news is we can use extreme temperatures to trick our bodies into a state of controlled discomfort — hormetic stress for the science nerds out there — that brings a slew of holistic benefits like building resiliency, improving circulation, reducing muscle tension and inflammation, glucose regulation, and more. a little cold plunge and sauna action in my morning routine has changed me in ways i can’t even enumerate.
